Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Stephen Winship. I am an attorney with a local Boise firm and I am a member of the Idaho House of Representatives. I got into politics because of my dad. I never really knew him; he died when I was two. But my mother always talked about how he planned to get involved in politics and wanted to run for the legislature. I guess this is my way of connecting with him.
What is your goal in the story?
Like I said, I am a state legislator. I am planning to run for Governor in two years. Everything seems to be on track until the day I went to Morris Hill Cemetery to place flowers on my mother’s grave. That’s the day I discovered the angel statue and my world turned upside down.
What is your favorite hobby?
I really don’t have a hobby per say but I love sports. My favorite is racket ball. I am a member of the local racket ball club and I play every chance I can get.
What challenge are you trying to overcome during the story?
I’m trying to overcome two things. The first is I am working hard to eliminate the sales tax on food. Currently the state charges 6% sales tax on food items. Given the sluggish state of the economy, many people are either unemployed or working more than one part time job to make ends meet. I don’t feel that it is right for the state to charge sales tax on the food thereby causing even more hardship for its citizens who are already struggling. The Governor believes that the state can’t do without the money, so he and I are battling over this issue. The second thing I’m trying to deal with is the fact that I’m being haunted by a woman who died in the 1800’s.
Why do you think you are being haunted?
Rose says she is trying to save me by telling me her story. The more she shows me of her life and the events leading up to her death, the more I see similarities in my own life.
Title: The Kiss of a Rose

A DISTANT PAST
In 1882, Rose Van Buren loved the wrong man and paid for it with her life. Now, more than a century later, the angel Gabriel has granted her another shot at living. In exchange, she must convince a smart, handsome, up-and-coming lawyer to set aside his lofty ambitions.
A FUTURE PRESENT
Stephen Winship is headed straight for the governor’s chair. He has a brilliant career, solid allies, and a seemingly perfect girlfriend. But night after night he finds himself dreaming of a heavenly beauty, a luminous but long-dead girl. Like some altered Ghost of Christmas Past, she shows him her own tragic tale in order to “save him.” And he’s beginning to see Rose is risking her heart as much as baring her soul. Yet falling for her will cost him everything—and open him up to a happiness he never imagined.
Augustina Van Hoven resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, two dogs and three cats. She is an avid reader of romance, science fiction and fantasy. When she’s not writing she likes to work in her garden or in the winter months crochet and knit on her knitting machines.
